Mining
Whilst mining within Tasmania and Victoria may not be at the same levels of Western
Australia and Queensland there are a significant number of both underground
and open cut mines in both states. These mines produce coal, iron ore,
lead and gold.
The industry utilises a wide range of equipment that includes
wheel loaders, hydraulic shovels, excavators, rigid-frame trucks, articulated
trucks, scrapers, track-type tractors, and carrydozers. Due to the operating
nature of the mines most sites have their equipment serviced on the actual
mine site therefore there is a need for qualified tradesmen on sites to
service and repair the equipment.
Other related jobs include machine operators who drive and operate
the equipment to dig and load trucks, truck driving and road building
and maintenance.
